Although it was established in 1990, the southern section of The Hamptons real estate market was annexed in 1976. The northern section of this neighbourhood located north of Edgemont was annexed later, in 1989. Some of the area's first real estate development occurred in the early 2000's, while the majority of the houses were constructed after 2005.

The Harvest Hills golf course, which is considered to be the most challenging of all the 9-hole golf courses in the entire province of Alberta, is not the only reason why The Hamptons is exceptional.
